The Lodge at Whitefish Lake
Lakefront, family-owned — 99 rooms, Boat Club restaurant, ski-and-paddle resort.
A 99-room family-owned lakefront resort on the south shore of Whitefish Lake in northwest Montana — the only ski-and-paddle resort in the area where the boats and the ski racks share garage space. The Boat Club is the on-property restaurant; the lakefront beach and dock anchor the summer program; Whitefish Mountain Resort's lifts are 10 minutes north.
Whitefish's lodging includes the slope-side hotels at Whitefish Mountain Resort (the Lodge at Whitefish Mountain) and the in-town and lakeside independents. The Lodge at Whitefish Lake is the lakefront option.
The setting
The resort sits on the south shore of Whitefish Lake at the base of the road up to Whitefish Mountain Resort. Walking distance to the Whitefish Lake Golf Club and the western edge of downtown Whitefish (with Café Kandahar, the Buffalo Cafe, and the Tupelo Grille). Whitefish Mountain Resort's lifts are 10 minutes north up the mountain road. Glacier National Park's West Glacier entrance is 30 minutes east on US-2.
The drive in from Glacier Park International (FCA) is 20 minutes; from Missoula, three hours; from Spokane, four hours.
The building
A multi-building stone-and-timber lodge complex on the lakefront — peaked roofs, river-rock chimneys, exposed timbers, and the kind of Montana-mountain-resort vernacular the Northern Rockies build with. Materials are stone, timber, pine, and wool. Public spaces include the main lobby with the central fireplace, the dining rooms, the spa wing, the pool deck, and the lakefront dock.
Family-owned. The continuity is the differentiator.
The rooms
Ninety-nine rooms across the main lodge and condo-style buildings. From around $545 in shoulder seasons; peak winter and Glacier-summer rates run higher. Layouts include kings, queens, lakefront suites, and full condo-style multi-bedroom layouts with kitchens. Bathrooms have been updated; lakefront rooms with balconies are the ones to ask for.
Food & drink
The Boat Club is the on-property restaurant — Northwest-leaning American cuisine, dinner most nights, plus breakfast and lunch. Open to non-guests. The bar runs cocktails through the evening with lakefront views. For destination dinners, Café Kandahar (in town, one of the better restaurants in northwest Montana) is 10 minutes east; the Tupelo Grille is also in town.
