Wine Country Inn

Family-owned since 1975 — 29 rooms on a hilltop above the Napa Valley, all with vineyard views.

Rustic AmericanaHistoric InnRomantic · CountryStone & Timber

Twenty-nine rooms on a hilltop above the Napa Valley north of St. Helena, family-owned since 1975 — the rare independent inn in Napa that's been continuously held by the same owners across the valley's full transformation from agricultural backwater to international wine destination. All rooms have vineyard views. The pool is on the hilltop. There's no on-site restaurant, no spa, no winery on the property — just the location, the family, and the view.

In a market dominated by Auberge Resorts, Meadowood, and the Four Seasons, the Wine Country Inn is the small, owner-run alternative.

The setting

The inn sits at 1152 Lodi Lane, off the Silverado Trail north of St. Helena. From the hilltop you look across vineyard rows toward Howell Mountain, the Mayacamas, and the valley floor. Walking distance to nothing — this is rural Napa, on a country road. Driving: St. Helena's Main Street is five minutes; Calistoga is 10 north; Yountville (the French Laundry, Bouchon) is 15 south.

The drive in from San Francisco is 90 minutes via US-101 and CA-29; from Oakland, 75. The valley's wine traffic is real on weekends — early arrivals matter.

The building

A two-story stucco-and-stone main building with cottages tucked into the hillside, all built specifically as an inn (not adapted from another structure). Materials are stone, timber, and clapboard. The pool deck and hot tub are on the hilltop facing the valley. Public spaces are modest — a lobby, a breakfast room, a wine bar, a porch.

Family-owned and run since 1975. Three generations.

The rooms

Twenty-nine rooms across the main building and detached cottages. King and queen layouts with vineyard-view balconies or patios; some cottage rooms have fireplaces and private outdoor patios. From around $495. Bathrooms have been updated; furniture leans country-traditional. Every room has a vineyard view — that's the property's defining feature.

Food & drink

A full breakfast is included, served in the breakfast room with valley views. The inn runs an evening wine reception (small bites and Napa-Sonoma pours) for guests. There's no on-site restaurant. For dinner, the in-town Napa-Sonoma options are five-to-15 minutes — Press, Goose & Gander, Cook St. Helena, and the Yountville restaurants are all easy drives.
