Fredericksburg Inn & Suites

Family-owned — 75 rooms, indoor + outdoor pools, on Main Street's east end.

Rustic AmericanaReimagined Motor LodgeRomantic · CountryStone & Timber

A family-owned inn on Main Street's east end in Fredericksburg, Texas — seventy-five rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, and the kind of straightforward operation that the Hill Country wine-and-Main-Street weekend actually requires. The Fredericksburg Inn & Suites is the larger, less-themed alternative to the German-village B&Bs Fredericksburg is full of: bigger, more pool-and-amenity-driven, and reasonably priced.

Fredericksburg is the small Texas Hill Country town settled by German immigrants in 1846 — Main Street is lined with limestone-and-clapboard storefronts, the Marktplatz holds the old church, and the surrounding land has become Texas wine country with two dozen wineries within a thirty-minute drive.

The setting

Fredericksburg sits in the Hill Country eighty miles west of Austin, sixty north of San Antonio. Main Street runs east-west through the historic district; the Inn is on the east end, walking distance to the central Marktplatz and the bulk of Main Street's restaurants and shops, but at the quieter end of the strip.

The 290 wine corridor — Becker, Pedernales Cellars, Grape Creek, William Chris — runs east toward Stonewall. Enchanted Rock State Natural Area (the granite dome) is twenty-five minutes north. Luckenbach (the Willie Nelson dance hall) is fifteen minutes east. Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park is fifteen minutes east.

The building

A new-build hotel completed in the 1990s and updated since — a stone-and-stucco exterior in Hill Country vernacular, with the kind of straightforward American-roadside-motel-grown-up-into-a-real-hotel architecture the Texas Hill Country has lots of. Materials are stone, stucco, and painted timber.

Public spaces include the lobby, the breakfast room, and the two pool decks (one indoor, one outdoor). The aesthetic is rustic-Americana applied without theme-park cliché.

The rooms

Seventy-five rooms across the property. Categories range from compact king rooms to larger suites with kitchenettes — the suites are the differentiator, useful for longer Hill Country wine-country stays. Bathrooms have been kept up. Beds are good. The aesthetic inside is straightforward — clean, well-maintained, no Texas-themed kitsch.

Rates from $195 in shoulder, which on Main Street is reasonable.

Food & drink

A continental breakfast is included. There's no on-site restaurant. Main Street's restaurant scene is a short walk west — the German-immigrant-influenced kitchens (Otto's, the Auslander, Hilda's), plus the contemporary Texas places (Cabernet Grill, Vaudeville). Fredericksburg eats well for a town its size.

On the property

The indoor pool runs year-round; the outdoor pool is seasonal. There's a hot tub and a small fitness room. The aesthetic is quiet — no programming, no events, just clean lodging in the right location.
