Topping Rose House

An 1842 Greek Revival restored by Tom Colicchio — 22 rooms, on-site farm, the Bridgehampton anchor.

Country EstateRefined AmericanaHistoric InnRomantic · CountryClapboard & Porch

An 1842 Greek Revival house in Bridgehampton, restored as a 22-room small luxury hotel with an on-site working farm and a kitchen run by Tom Colicchio. Topping Rose House is the Bridgehampton anchor — the polished alternative to the Hampton Maidstone or Baron's Cove, and a property where the kitchen is genuinely the lead artifact.

It sits at the corner of Main Street and Ocean Road in Bridgehampton, in the heart of one of the most-photographed pieces of American summer-resort village architecture.

The setting

Bridgehampton is the middle of the South Fork — between Southampton and East Hampton, halfway down the Hamptons strip. Topping Rose House occupies the Greek Revival corner property at Main and Ocean. The Atlantic at Sagg Main Beach is five minutes south by car; East Hampton village is ten minutes east; Sag Harbor is fifteen minutes north.

This is the established Hamptons — older money, more measured, with the polo-and-equestrian set in the next field over.

The building

The 1842 main house — clapboard, symmetrical Greek Revival facade, the wide porch and pediment that defines the period — has been carefully restored as the public-rooms and dining-room core. A barn and outbuildings have been added behind for additional rooms, the spa, and the pool deck. Materials are clapboard, painted wood, brass and the occasional vintage pendant. The aesthetic is country-estate-meets-Hamptons-village, restrained and well-appointed.

The rooms

Twenty-two rooms across the main house, the carriage house, and the cottages. Categories include classic main-house rooms (with original fireplaces and historic detailing), larger garden suites with private decks, and a few cottages. Beds are kings; bathrooms are tile and marble, with deep soaking tubs and rain showers. From-rates open around $995 in season — peak Hamptons. Wi-Fi is excellent.

Food & drink

The Topping Rose House restaurant, run under Tom Colicchio's program, is the principal dining room. The menu pulls from the on-site farm and surrounding Long Island producers, with a contemporary American format and a strong wine list. Non-guests book regularly. The bar program is separate and runs late.

On the property

A heated outdoor pool with a poolside menu, a full-service spa, the working organic farm, tennis courts (via the Bridgehampton Tennis Club connection), bicycles to borrow, and direct access to the village. The beach club at Sagg Main is included.
