Baker House 1650

A 17th-century Tudor on Main Street — six rooms, spa, steam room, adults-only.

Country EstateHistoric InnRomantic · CountryClapboard & PorchVelvet & Vintage

A six-room adults-only inn in a 17th-century Tudor on East Hampton's Main Street, with a small spa, a steam room, an outdoor pool, and the kind of preserved wood-frame heritage that East Hampton was founded on. The Baker House dates to around 1650 — making it one of the oldest continuously occupied buildings on Long Island. The current iteration is small luxury, intensely curated, and adults-only.

It is the rare Hamptons property where the building is older than most American cities and where the program has been kept deliberately small.

The setting

The inn sits on Main Street in East Hampton village, two blocks from Newtown Lane (the shopping spine), four blocks from Town Pond, and a ten-minute drive to Main Beach. Sag Harbor is fifteen minutes north; Montauk is thirty minutes east. The drive from Manhattan is two and a half hours plus traffic; in summer, the Hampton Jitney and the LIRR are saner.

East Hampton's Main Street is one of the better-preserved 17th- and 18th-century New England-meets-Long Island streetscapes — tree-shaded, with the original windmills and church steeples still in place.

The building

A Tudor-style heritage building dating in parts to around 1650, with substantial 19th- and 20th-century additions and renovations layered over the centuries. The interior keeps period-correct wide-plank pine floors, original fireplaces, hand-hewn beam ceilings, and the Tudor-revival detailing the 1920s additions added. Materials are clapboard and stone, brass and velvet, with curated antiques throughout. The aesthetic is country-estate-meets-Hamptons-village.

The rooms

Six rooms across the main house and a converted dependency. Categories include classic king rooms with sitting areas, larger suites with private fireplaces, and a few with whirlpool tubs. Beds are kings; bathrooms are tile and marble, generously sized in higher categories. From-rates open around $1,295 in season — peak Hamptons. Wi-Fi is good.
