Anvil Hotel

A 1950s motor hotel reimagined in 2017 — Filson-collab aesthetic, Glorietta Trattoria, rooftop patio.

A 1950s motor hotel in downtown Jackson, Wyoming, taken apart in 2017 and rebuilt as a 49-room boutique with a Filson-collab aesthetic, a serious Italian restaurant (Glorietta Trattoria), and a rooftop patio. The Anvil isn't fake-rustic; it's the Jackson version of the well-done motor-lodge reimagining — Pendleton, leather, stone, and timber, on bones that are actually mid-century motel.

It's the in-town Jackson alternative to the resort lodging at Teton Village or the chain hotels on the highway. Walking distance to the Town Square and the bars.

The setting

The hotel sits at 215 N. Cache Street in downtown Jackson, two blocks from the Town Square (with the four elk-antler arches), the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, and Snake River Brewing. Walking distance to most of Jackson's restaurants and bars. The drive to Teton Village is 20 minutes; to Grand Teton's Moose entrance, 20 minutes north; to Jackson Hole Airport, 25 minutes north.

The downtown Jackson scene is dense and walkable — the Anvil's location lets you skip the car after check-in.

The building

Originally a 1950s motor hotel, gutted and rebuilt with the original parking-court geometry intact. The exterior is wood and stone in the Filson-Pendleton material vocabulary. Public spaces include the lobby (with a fireplace and the kind of dense styling that's been well-photographed), the rooftop patio, and Glorietta on the ground floor.

Independently developed and owned. The renovation was substantial enough to be a near-rebuild but kept the motor-lodge bones — exterior-corridor rooms, single-floor wings — that distinguish it from condo-tower competitors.

The rooms

Forty-nine rooms across kings, queens, and a few suites. From around $525 in shoulder seasons; peak winter rates run higher. Rooms get pine paneling, leather details, wool throws, and the styled-mountain aesthetic. Bathrooms are tiled and modern with rainfall showers. Some rooms open to the central courtyard. The aesthetic does the styling that other Jackson hotels still try to do; this one was the early model.

Food & drink

Glorietta Trattoria is the on-property restaurant — wood-fired Italian, dinner most nights, cocktail bar attached, open to non-guests. It's been one of the better-reviewed restaurants in Jackson since the hotel opened. The rooftop patio runs cocktails and small plates seasonally.

On the property

The amenity stack is small but well-considered:

  • Glorietta Trattoria restaurant and bar
  • Rooftop patio (seasonal)
  • Lobby fireplace and lounge
  • Concierge for ski, raft, and park reservations
  • Open year-round

Who it's for

  • Skiers who want an in-town hotel with personality, not a slope-side condo
  • Couples doing a winter or summer Jackson weekend with a strong dinner anchor
  • Architecture and design folks reading the Filson-collab styling as a feature
  • Repeat Jackson visitors who want to walk to the Cowboy Bar after dinner

Who it's not for

  • Travelers wanting ski-in/ski-out (you drive 20 minutes to Teton Village)
  • Anyone needing a full resort with pool, spa, kids' club, and gym
  • Light sleepers in courtyard-facing rooms — the hotel is busy and downtown Jackson is loud
