An 1866 Italianate mansion in Rock City Falls, ten minutes west of downtown Saratoga Springs — eight rooms in a single-family Victorian B&B, set on the quieter Adirondack-foothills edge of the Saratoga region. The Mansion Inn is the small-and-personal alternative to in-town Saratoga lodging: same regional access, considerably more rural setting.

Rock City Falls is the kind of small upstate New York hamlet most travelers drive past — a few houses, a creek, the falls themselves. The Mansion sits on the main road, set back on grounds that include mature trees and a lawn running toward the woods.

The setting

Saratoga Springs is forty minutes north of Albany, on the southern edge of the Adirondack foothills. Rock City Falls is ten minutes west of downtown Saratoga, on Route 29 — outside the town's commercial buzz, in farm country sliding into the Adirondacks. The drive into Saratoga proper takes about ten or fifteen minutes by car.

Saratoga's Broadway and Race Course are ten to fifteen minutes east. The Saratoga Spa State Park is fifteen minutes east. Saratoga National Historical Park (the Battlefield) is twenty minutes south. Lake George is forty-five minutes north.

The building

An 1866 Italianate mansion — symmetrical, with bracketed cornices, tall windows, and the kind of mid-Victorian country-estate architecture that Saratoga County's prosperous mill owners built. Two stories plus a tower. Materials are clapboard and brick outside, plaster, dark wood, and original hardwood inside.

Public spaces include the parlor with a fireplace, the library, the breakfast room, and a wraparound porch. The aesthetic is country-estate with Neo-Victoriana detailing — restrained period.

The rooms

Eight rooms across the two main floors. Each is a different size and shape. Most have fireplaces; many have whirlpool tubs. Bathrooms are private and updated. Beds are king or queen. The interiors keep the period bones with brass-and-velvet detailing.

Rates from $295 in shoulder; racing-season weekends climb significantly.

Food & drink

A full breakfast is included — cooked, served family-style. There's no on-site restaurant. Saratoga Springs's restaurants are ten or fifteen minutes east — Hattie's, 15 Church, Salt & Char, the wider Broadway scene. Closer dinners are limited; you'll drive to town.
