Roosevelt Inn
A 1906 schoolhouse converted to 15 themed rooms — walking distance to the lake.
A 1906 schoolhouse converted into a fifteen-room themed inn, walking distance to Lake Coeur d'Alene. The Roosevelt Inn occupies one of the better-preserved early-20th-century institutional buildings in northern Idaho — three stories of brick, restored interior, and the kind of conversion that kept the schoolhouse bones (wide stairs, tall windows, central hallways) while fitting fifteen guest rooms into the original classrooms.
Each room is themed differently — different styles, different period references — without slipping into pure kitsch. The inn runs as a small B&B with the kind of breakfast and evening-reception rhythm the format expects.
The setting
Coeur d'Alene sits at the north end of Lake Coeur d'Alene in the Idaho panhandle, half an hour east of Spokane, Washington. The lake is the town's draw — clear, deep, surrounded by forested mountains. Downtown Coeur d'Alene is small and walkable; the lakefront is a few blocks from the inn.
The Coeur d'Alene Resort and the lakefront boardwalk are walkable. Tubbs Hill (the public hiking peninsula on the lake) is a short walk. McEuen Park is between the inn and the lake. Downtown's restaurants are walkable. Schweitzer Mountain (skiing) is an hour and a half north. Silver Mountain is forty minutes east.
The building
A 1906 schoolhouse — three stories of red brick with arched windows and the kind of civic-institutional architecture small Idaho towns built when statehood was still recent. Materials are brick outside, plaster, dark wood, and original heart-pine flooring inside. The conversion kept the stairs, hallways, and window proportions intact.
Public spaces include the parlor, library, breakfast room, and front porch. The aesthetic is Neo-Victoriana with brass-and-velvet detailing — the schoolhouse bones plus period interior layering.
The rooms
Fifteen rooms across the three floors. Each is themed (the Lincoln Bedroom, the President's Suite, etc., with various American-history references). Bathrooms have been updated; many include whirlpool tubs. Beds are queen or king.
Rates from $245 in shoulder; peak summer climbs.
Food & drink
A full breakfast is included — cooked, served in the dining room. An afternoon snack and evening reception are also typical. There's no on-site restaurant. Downtown Coeur d'Alene's restaurants are walkable: Beverly's at the Coeur d'Alene Resort, Crafted, Tito's Italian Grill, and a wider casual scene.
