The Mansion on Forsyth Park is a 126-room hotel built around an 1888 Romanesque Revival mansion at the corner of Forsyth Park, Savannah's central green space. Four hundred-plus original paintings line the public spaces and corridors. The 700 Drayton Restaurant runs a serious dining room. The aesthetic leans bohemian-theatrical with strong Neo-Victoriana overlays — saturated color, layered textiles, vintage curiosities.

It's the largest of the small group of properties that combine historic Savannah mansions with hotel-scale operations. The result is a hotel that feels closer to an immersive museum-with-rooms than a standard luxury property.

The setting

At the corner of Whitaker Street and West Hall, facing Forsyth Park's iconic central fountain. Forsyth Park is one of the larger urban green spaces in the southeastern US, with the fountain, the Confederate Memorial, and the surrounding live-oak canopies. The Savannah Historic District begins at the park's north end and runs to River Street — twenty minutes' walk or a five-minute taxi.

The drive from Charleston is two hours; from Atlanta, four. Most guests are on a long weekend.

The building

The original 1888 Romanesque Revival mansion (red brick, terracotta detailing, arched openings, Tiffany-style stained glass) has been kept largely intact and houses the public spaces, the dining room, and several suite categories. A more contemporary connecting addition holds the bulk of the rooms. The interior leans saturated — deep colors, brass and velvet, vintage upholstery, the 400+-painting art program weaving through corridors and rooms.

The aesthetic is committed and the renovation has held up.

The rooms

A hundred and twenty-six rooms across the mansion and the connected addition. Categories climb from compact rooms (around $445) up through mansion suites with fireplaces, soaking tubs, and the period bones in larger floor plans. Beds are kings, linens are heavy, bathrooms are full marble in the upper categories. Park-facing rooms get the Forsyth fountain view; rear rooms face the courtyard.

Food & drink

700 Drayton Restaurant is the on-site dining room — contemporary Southern with a lower-country emphasis (regional fish, regional vegetables, a competent wine list). Open to non-guests by reservation. The Casimir Lounge handles the cocktail program in the mansion's original parlor. The Poseidon Spa is the on-site spa with a full menu.

Nearby
