Inn at Cannon Beach
30 rooms in a Cape-Cod-style boutique — three blocks to the beach, family-owned.
A 30-room Cape Cod-style boutique three blocks from the beach in Cannon Beach, family-owned and run with the kind of attention small inns in the right hands acquire. The Inn at Cannon Beach is the inland alternative to the oceanfront resorts — quieter at night, on a residential block, with a heated pool and a working garden.
It is the working-family Cannon Beach pick — the alternative to renting a vacation house and a notch quieter than a beachfront resort.
The setting
Cannon Beach sits ninety minutes northwest of Portland on the Oregon coast. The Inn occupies a parcel on Hemlock Street, three blocks back from the public beach and a five-minute walk to Haystack Rock and the downtown gallery strip. Ecola State Park's trails are five minutes north. The drive from Portland International Airport is ninety minutes.
The town is small and walkable. Three blocks off the beach is residential and quiet at night.
The building
A Cape Cod-style clapboard inn — symmetrical facade, painted wood, deep porches. The aesthetic is restrained American refined-coastal: navy and white, brass, the occasional bit of pine paneling. The renovation has refreshed without erasing.
The rooms
Thirty rooms across the main inn building and a few outbuildings. Categories include standard kings, queens, and a few suites with sitting rooms. Many rooms have gas fireplaces and private patios facing the garden. Beds are kings or queens; bathrooms are tile, refreshed. From-rates open around $285 in season — fair value for Cannon Beach. Wi-Fi is fine; cell is normal.
Food & drink
There's no restaurant. A continental breakfast is set out daily. For dinner, downtown Cannon Beach is a five-minute walk: Newmans at 988, Driftwood Restaurant, Sweet Basil's, and the Wayfarer at Surfsand are within walking distance. Castaways and Pelican Brewing are reliable casual options.
