From the Rivertown Lodge owners — new-build cabins and lodge rooms in Leeds. Michelin Key.

Camptown is the Catskills hotel from the Rivertown Lodge owners — Ramshackle Properties — that finally answered the question of what they'd build from scratch. New construction. Twenty-four rooms across cabins and a main lodge in Leeds, NY. A serious restaurant. A Michelin Key. Materials are stone, timber, pine, wool. The aesthetic is rustic-Americana with the design discipline that the Rivertown Lodge already telegraphed.

It opened in 2023 and earned a Michelin Key in the inaugural US Michelin Keys release. Pricing reflects that. From around $425 a night.

The setting

Leeds is a small Catskills hamlet on the Catskill Creek, fifteen minutes north of the village of Catskill and ten minutes off the Thruway at exit 21. The setting is rural but not remote — the Hudson is fifteen minutes east, Hudson the town is twenty-five minutes northeast, Tannersville and Hunter Mountain are forty-five minutes west. The Catskill Creek runs through the property, which is most of what the cabin layout takes advantage of.

The drive from Manhattan is about two and a half hours via the Thruway. Hudson Amtrak is the closer train option, twenty-five minutes east.

The building

A new-build cabin and lodge complex designed in a contemporary rustic-Americana idiom: stone foundations, vertical timber cladding, dark steel, large windows facing the creek and woods. The main lodge handles the public spaces — bar, lounge, dining room — and the cabins step out into the trees from there. Materials throughout: stone, timber, pine, wool, blackened steel.

The rooms

Twenty-four rooms across standalone cabins, lodge rooms, and a few duplex configurations. Cabins have private outdoor space, fireplaces or wood stoves, and large windows oriented to the surrounding forest. Lodge rooms are more compact but share the same material palette. Beds, linens, and bathrooms are at the higher end. From around $425 in shoulder seasons; weekends and foliage run higher.

Food & drink

The on-site restaurant holds a Michelin Key and runs a working menu of Hudson Valley produce, regional fish and meat, and a wine and cocktail program that's serious without being austere. Non-guests can book and frequently do — Camptown is a destination dinner from Hudson and the surrounding towns. The bar in the main lodge runs late by Catskills standards.

On the property

The amenity set is calibrated for the price tier and the wooded site.

  • Michelin Key restaurant and bar
  • Outdoor pool, seasonal
  • Fire pits and outdoor lounges
  • Walking trails along the Catskill Creek and through the property's wooded acres
  • Bonfires in cooler months
  • Open year-round

Who it's for

  • Couples doing a Catskills weekend who treat dinner as the main event
  • Travelers who liked Rivertown Lodge and want a rural version
  • Architecture-and-design weekenders
  • Cabin people who don't want to actually book a cabin on Airbnb

Who it's not for

  • Travelers who want a destination spa — wellness here is incidental
  • Big groups — twenty-four rooms across a wooded site doesn't accommodate them well
  • Budget Catskills travelers — there are cheaper options in the same region

Nearby

Hudson is twenty-five minutes east, with Warren Street, Olana, and Basilica Hudson. Hunter Mountain and Windham are forty-five minutes west for skiing in winter. The town of Catskill, with the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse views and Thomas Cole's home, is fifteen minutes south. Rip Van Winkle Bridge is fifteen minutes for the river crossing. Cedar Grove (the Cole Site) and Olana, on either side of the Hudson, are a serious half-day for art and architecture together.
