Adobe Grand Villas

Sixteen themed adults-only suites — each different, all maximalist, all with private patios.

Sixteen themed adults-only suites in West Sedona — each entirely different, all maximalist, all with private patios and the kind of one-of-a-kind interiors that the property's regulars come back for. Adobe Grand Villas is among the more committed thematic hotels in Arizona: every villa has its own concept (the Lookout, the Tea Room, the Wine Cellar, etc.), and each is executed at a level the genre rarely attempts.

Whether the result reads romantic or theatrical depends on you. The reviews are bimodal in a useful way — guests who want this kind of thing love it; everyone else picks a different Sedona property. That's the right way to know if you're booking the right hotel.

The setting

Adobe Grand sits in West Sedona, a few minutes from the highway and a short drive from Sedona's main commercial district and the red-rock-trail entrances. It's quieter than the Uptown Sedona crowd; the property is set back into a residential area with red-rock views.

Tlaquepaque, the arts and crafts village in central Sedona, is ten minutes east. The Chapel of the Holy Cross is fifteen minutes. The Cathedral Rock and Bell Rock trailheads are fifteen to twenty minutes south in the Village of Oak Creek. Slide Rock State Park is twenty minutes north up Oak Creek Canyon.

The building

A new-build in Pueblo-Revival style — adobe walls (real and faux), kiva fireplaces, vigas, and the kind of country-estate-meets-Southwest detailing that the architects committed to. The villas are clustered into a small compound with shared courtyards, and the public space is mostly the breakfast room and the grounds.

Materials are stone, timber, brass, velvet, and a wide range of theme-driven decorative elements. Each villa interior is unique — different colors, different textiles, different furniture pieces, different fireplaces.

The rooms

Sixteen villas, each separately themed. The Lookout has a tower; the Tea Room is built around a tea ceremony; the Wine Cellar is, in fact, designed as a wine cellar room. All have kiva fireplaces, private patios, and large soaking tubs (some with dedicated whirlpool or steam features). Bathrooms are large. Beds are king. Patios face red-rock landscape.

The thematic commitment is high. If you want a quiet minimalist suite, this isn't the property. If you want to stay in a room called the Wine Cellar with red leather and barrel staves, you have arrived.

Rates from $545 in shoulder; rate climbs across the named villas.

Food & drink

A full breakfast is included — multi-course, served in the dining room or delivered to your villa. There's no on-site restaurant for lunch or dinner. Sedona's restaurants are a five- to ten-minute drive.

The pool is heated and is set in the central courtyard with red-rock views. There's a fitness room. Spa treatments are arranged on site. The property is adults-only and quiet by policy.
